How to make a fake Reddit post

  1. 1

    Set the subreddit and people

    Under People, type the community in "Subreddit" (with or without "r/"), then the names and a "Handle" for the poster and each commenter.

  2. 2

    Write the post and comments

    In the first message, the first line is the title and the rest is the post text. Every message after it is a comment. Set "Upvotes" on each and "Comments" on the post.

  3. 3

    Download the PNG

    Save the post as a PNG at 2x or 3x, as a phone screen or the whole thread. No watermark.

What makes it look like a real Reddit post

  • Community header and Join

    The post opens with the r/ icon, the community name and post age, the poster's u/ name and a "Join" button, under the app's back and search icons.

  • Bold title, then the post

    The first line of the post becomes the bold title and the lines after it the body text, so you write it the way you would on Reddit.

  • Score, comments, Share

    Under the post sit the up- and downvote pill with your score, the comment count and Share. Leave the comment count empty and it counts the comments you wrote.

  • Comments with the OP tag

    Each comment shows an avatar, the username, its age, Reply and its own score. When the poster answers, their comments get the "OP" tag.

  • Photos

    Add a photo to the post with "Photo", or a photo comment with "+ Photo". Give people a profile photo instead of the letter avatar.

  • Dark or light, five languages

    Switch between light and dark mode. "Join", "Sort by: Best", Share and Reply come in English, Portuguese, German, Spanish or French.

How to make the Reddit post look real

  • Write the title like a Reddit title: one sentence that tells the whole story, such as "Two years of waiting and my monstera finally gave me a split leaf".
  • Pick a subreddit name that fits the topic and write it in one word, like "houseplants".
  • Use Reddit-style handles: lowercase words joined with underscores or numbers, like "fern_and_fig". Without a handle, one is made from the name.
  • Give the post a much higher score than the comments, and the top comment more than the ones under it.
  • Use Reddit ages in "Time", such as "5h", "3h" or "2d", and make the comments younger than the post.
  • Let the poster reply once or twice: the "OP" tag makes a thread look lived-in.

Common mistakes

  • The title on two lines

    Only the first line is the title. Put the rest of the text on the next lines, or it all ends up in bold.

  • A comment count that doesn't add up

    A post with 3 comments shown and "Comments" set to 2 looks wrong. Use a higher number, or leave it empty so it counts them.

  • Comments older than the post

    A comment from 6h under a post from 5h is impossible. Read the times top to bottom before you download.

  • Chat-style comments

    Reddit comments are full sentences, often with an opinion or a tip. One-word replies read like a group chat.

  • Round numbers everywhere

    Scores like 1000 and 500 look made up. Use numbers like "1.2K" or "347".

How do I set the title?
The title is the first line of the first message. Press Enter after it and type the post text below. The hint under the field reminds you.
Can I add a photo to the post?
Yes. Under the post text, press "Photo" and pick an image. It is cropped to the post's shape and stays in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Can I show nested replies?
Not yet. Comments show one under the other, each with its own score, and the poster's replies get the "OP" tag.
Are my posts uploaded anywhere?
No. The post is saved only in your browser and the PNG is made there too.
Can I make a fake post by a real person or brand?
No. It is for mock-ups, stories and jokes. Passing made-up posts off as real, fake reviews or impersonating someone are against our acceptable use policy.
