How to make an Instagram carousel mockup
- 1
Add your slides
On the post, press × on the sample slides, then press "Photo" and pick up to 10 images in the order you want them. Each is cropped to a square and never leaves your browser.
- 2
Write the caption and counts
The first message is the caption. Type its Likes and Comments, and add comments as the next messages. Under People, set the account's handle and the verified badge.
- 3
Download the PNG
Save the post as a PNG at 2x or 3x. It shows the slide you picked with the "n/N" badge and dots, as the feed does. Click another thumbnail and save again to get every slide. No watermark.
What makes it look like a real Instagram carousel
Up to 10 square slides
Like Instagram, a carousel holds up to 10 photos. Each is centre-cropped to a square, so slides you design at 1080 × 1080 fit exactly.
The "1/N" badge and dots
Click a thumbnail to show that slide: the counter in the top corner reads "3/4" and the third dot turns blue, like swiping in the app.
Caption, likes and comments
"3,912 likes", the caption under the username, "View all 128 comments" and comment lines below.
Username and verified badge
Ringed profile picture, username and the blue badge for brands and creators.
Light and dark mode
Switch the whole post to dark with one click, to check your cover slide on both.
Five languages
"likes", "View all comments" and the rest of the app text in English, Portuguese, German, Spanish or French.
What people use it for
- Showing a client a carousel in context before it is posted
- Content calendars, pitch decks and case studies
- Testing whether a cover slide stops the scroll in light and dark feeds
- Lessons on social media marketing and online safety
How to make a carousel mockup look real
- Design the slides as squares (1080 × 1080). Anything else is cropped from the centre, so text near the edges can be cut off.
- Make the first slide a cover: a short, bold headline. It is the slide people see first in the feed, so it has to carry the post.
- Put a small hint like "Swipe →" or the account's handle on the slides, as creators do.
- Write a caption that points to the slides ("Swipe through and save this") and ends with a few hashtags.
- Carousels get saved and commented on more than single photos, so keep comments around 2–5% of likes, e.g. 3,912 likes and 128 comments.
Common mistakes
Text cut off at the edges
A portrait or landscape slide loses its sides or top when it is cropped to a square. Export your slides as squares first.
Slides in the wrong order
New photos are added after the ones already there. To change the cover, remove the slides and add them again in order.
More comments than the count
Five comment lines under "View all 3 comments" don't add up. Keep the Comments count higher than the comments you write.
Round numbers
1,000 likes and 100 comments look typed in. Real counts are uneven, like 3,912 and 128.
Instagram carousel mockup questions
- Is the carousel generator free?
- Yes. Make as many carousel mockups as you like and download the PNG for free, with no watermark and no account.
- How many slides can I add?
- Up to 10, the same limit as Instagram. Press "Photo" on the post and pick several images at once, or add them one by one.
- Does the PNG show every slide?
- Not in one file. Like a post in the feed, each screenshot shows one slide with its "n/N" badge and one dot per slide. Click a slide's thumbnail, then Download PNG, and repeat for each slide.
- Are my slides uploaded anywhere?
- No. The images are cropped and resized in your browser and saved only there, with the rest of your post.
- Can I make a single-photo post or a story instead?
- Yes. With one photo the post has no badge or dots; the Instagram post generator has a sample for that. The Instagram story generator makes 9:16 stories.
- Can I make a carousel from a real account?
- No. It is for mock-ups, previews and lessons. Passing made-up posts off as real, or impersonating someone, is against our acceptable use policy.
