How to make a fake Instagram DM
- 1
Start from the sample
The editor above already holds a short DM thread in the Instagram style. Edit it or clear it.
- 2
Write the messages
Add messages from either side, change the name and times, and mark your last message as seen.
- 3
Download the screenshot
Save the phone screen or the whole thread as a PNG at 2x or 3x. No watermark.
What makes it look like a real DM
Gradient bubbles
Your messages in the purple-to-blue gradient on the right, theirs in grey on the left, with grouped corners.
Profile header
A 1:1 chat opens with the avatar, the name, a handle and "View profile", and the top bar says "Active now".
"Seen" under your message
Mark your newest message as read to show "Seen" under it, or turn read receipts off.
Group DMs
Add people and name the group; the header shows stacked avatars and each message its sender.
Light and dark mode
Switch the whole screen to dark with one click.
Five languages
"Active now", "Seen" and the rest of the app text in English, Portuguese, German, Spanish or French.
What people use it for

- Ads and social posts showing a customer DM or a creator collab
- UX mockups and pitch decks for messaging features
- Lessons on DM scams, fake giveaways and online safety
Instagram chat generator questions
- Is the Instagram chat generator free?
- Yes. Write as many DMs as you like and download the PNG for free, with no watermark and no account.
- Can I make an Instagram group chat?
- Yes. Turn on group chat under People, add members and give the group a name.
- Can I show "Seen"?
- Yes. Set your newest message to read and keep read receipts on; "Seen" appears under it.
- Do I need to log in to Instagram?
- No. Nothing connects to Instagram. The studio only draws an image, in your browser, on any phone or computer.
- Can I use it to fake someone's real messages?
- No. It is for mock-ups, stories and lessons. Passing a made-up chat off as real, or impersonating someone, is against our acceptable use policy.
