How to make an Instagram profile mockup
- 1
Set up the account
Under People, type the account's name and handle, tap the round button before the name to add a profile picture, and tick the verified badge if the brand has one.
- 2
Write the bio and add photos
The first message is the bio; start new lines as you would in the app. Press "Photo" on it and pick up to 10 images for the grid. Under Settings, type the posts, followers and following counts.
- 3
Download the PNG
Save the profile as a PNG at 2x or 3x. No watermark.
What makes it look like a real Instagram profile
Posts, followers, following
The three counts sit next to the profile picture, written exactly as you type them, like 12.4K or 1,203.
Profile picture with a ring
Your uploaded photo, or the name's first letter, inside the gradient ring.
Name and bio
The name in bold, then the bio with its line breaks and emoji.
Visitor or owner view
Someone else's profile shows Follow and Message. Make yourself the bio's sender and it shows Edit profile and Share profile instead.
Photo grid
Up to 10 photos under the grid tab, three per row in portrait tiles, like the current Instagram grid.
Light, dark and five languages
Switch to dark mode with one click. "followers", "Follow" and the rest of the app text come in English, Portuguese, German, Spanish or French.
What people use it for
- Showing a client how their profile will look after a rebrand
- Pitch decks, case studies and social media audits
- Planning a grid so the latest posts look good together
- Lessons on social media marketing and on spotting fake accounts
How to make a profile mockup look real
- Keep the bio to three or four short lines: what the account is, one detail, and a call to action.
- Use uneven counts in the app's short format: 12.4K followers and 183 following look real; 10,000 and 100 look typed in.
- Posts should be higher than the number of tiles you show. 214 posts with 10 tiles in view is normal.
- Fill the grid with photos in one style or colour palette, the way brands plan their feeds.
- Pick a profile picture that still reads when small, like a logo on a plain background.
Common mistakes
Mixed number formats
"12,400" next to "1.2K" looks wrong. Instagram shortens large counts with K and M.
Fewer posts than tiles
If Posts says 3 and the grid shows 10 photos, it doesn't add up. Leave Posts empty to use the number of photos.
Subject at the edge of a photo
Grid tiles are portrait, so wide photos lose their sides. Keep the subject in the middle.
A bio that is too long
Instagram bios hold 150 characters. A long paragraph gives the mockup away.
Instagram profile mockup questions
- Is the profile generator free?
- Yes. Make as many profile mockups as you like and download the PNG for free, with no watermark and no account.
- Can I show my own profile with Edit profile?
- Yes. Under Messages, set the bio's Sender to yourself (me). The buttons become Edit profile and Share profile, and the top bar shows the menu icon instead of the back arrow.
- How many photos can the grid show?
- Up to 10. Press "Photo" on the bio and pick several images at once, or add them one by one. Leave Posts empty under Settings and the count follows the photos.
- Can I add story highlights?
- Yes. Under Settings, type the highlight names separated by commas, like Menu, Reviews, Events. They appear as circles between the buttons and the grid, with covers taken from your grid photos. Leave the field empty to hide the row.
- Can I add a category and a link in bio?
- Yes. Under Settings, type a category, like Bakery or Artist, and it appears in grey under the name, as on business profiles. Type a link and it appears after the bio with a chain icon, exactly as you wrote it; a long link is cut short with an ellipsis. Leave a field empty to hide its line.
- Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
- No. The images are resized in your browser and saved only there, with the rest of your profile.
- Can I make a post for the same account?
- Yes. The Instagram post generator makes a feed post with likes, a caption and comments, and the carousel generator takes up to 10 slides. Open the Instagram post generator →
- Can I copy a real person's profile?
- No. It is for brand mockups, previews and lessons. Making a profile that pretends to be a person or brand you don't represent is against our acceptable use policy.
