How to make fake Discord messages
- 1
Pick a channel or a DM
Under People, keep "Group chat" on for a server channel and type the channel in "Group name". Turn it off for a DM with one person.
- 2
Write the messages
Add messages from you or the others and set the times. Reply to an older message or add a reaction.
- 3
Download the PNG
Save the chat as a PNG at 2x or 3x, as a phone screen or just the messages. No watermark.
What makes it look like real Discord messages
No bubbles
Like the Discord app, each message group starts with a round avatar, the name and "Today at 9:41". Messages that follow from the same person sit right under it.
Server channels
A group becomes a text channel: the header shows "# game-night", the chat opens with the "Welcome to #game-night!" banner, and every member's name gets a role colour.
DMs
Turn off "Group chat" and the header shows the other person's avatar with a green online dot, and the input reads "Message @name".
Replies and reactions
A reply draws Discord's curved line to a small avatar and the quoted message above it. Reactions sit under the message as chips with a count.
Photos, avatars and notices
Add photos with a caption, give each person a profile photo, and add a "+ Date / notice" line such as "Theo joined the server.", shown with the green arrow.
Dark or light, five languages
Switch between Discord's dark and light themes. "Today at" and the rest of the app text come in English, Portuguese, German, Spanish or French.
What people use it for
- Gaming stories, memes and short videos
- Community, bot and app mock-ups
- Scenes in books, comics and scripts
- Lessons on scams, fake screenshots and online safety
How to make the Discord chat look real
- Write in lower case for the channel: Discord channel names have no spaces and no capitals. Type "game night" in "Group name" and it shows as "# game-night".
- Send short messages in a row. Discord shows the avatar and name once, and the next messages from the same person stack under it, like in a real channel.
- A pause of an hour or more starts a new message group with the avatar again, so keep the times close together for a live conversation.
- Use "Reply to" when someone answers an older message. Discord shows the reply line above it, which makes the channel feel busy and real.
- Give people profile photos, or leave the default avatars in different colours. Add reactions only here and there.
- Pick dark mode: most people use Discord dark. Set "Status bar time" a few minutes after the last message.
Common mistakes
Paragraphs in one message
People on Discord send several short lines in a row. One long block of text looks like an email.
Read receipts
Discord doesn't show read checks or "Seen" under messages, so don't add them in an edit. The screenshot looks right without them.
Times that go backwards
A reply at 9:38 under a message sent at 9:42 is impossible. Read the times top to bottom before you download.
"online" with an old DM
A DM shows a green dot when the person is online. For an older chat, type a status like "Idle" in "Status under the name" to replace the dot.
A clock earlier than the chat
A status bar at 9:41 above messages from 23:05 gives the image away. Set "Status bar time" after the last message.
Fake Discord message questions
- Is the Discord message generator free?
- Yes. Make as many chats as you like and download the PNG for free, with no watermark and no account.
- Can I make a Discord DM instead of a server channel?
- Yes. Under People, turn off "Group chat". The header then shows the other person with an online dot, and the input reads "Message @name".
- Can I post a photo in the Discord chat?
- Yes. Under the messages, press "+ Photo" and pick an image, then change the sender on its row and type a caption if you like. The image stays in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
- Can I add server lists, roles or bots?
- Not yet. It makes one channel or DM as it looks on a phone. Names get role colours in a channel, and you can name any person after a bot.
- Are my messages uploaded anywhere?
- No. The chat is saved only in your browser and the PNG is made there too.
- Can I make fake messages from a real person?
- No. It is for mock-ups, stories and lessons. Passing made-up messages off as real, or impersonating someone, is against our acceptable use policy.
