20 Instagram bio ideas for businesses and creators

The three-line formula

Line one says what the account is. Line two adds one detail that makes it yours: a place, a schedule, a number. Line three tells the visitor what to do next, usually pointing at the link. Instagram allows 150 characters and TikTok only 80, so every word has to earn its place. One or two emoji help the eye; a row of them does not.

Preview your bio before you change it

Open the Instagram profile generator: the first message is the bio, so type your three lines there with real line breaks. Under Settings, add a "Category under the name (e.g. Bakery)" for a business look and a "Link in bio". Press "Photo" on the bio to fill the grid with your own pictures, then check that the bio still reads well next to the counts and the photos.

Want to see it as the account owner? Under Messages, set the bio's Sender to yourself and the buttons become Edit profile and Share profile. Then pick TikTok profile above the editor: the same bio, name and photos appear in a TikTok-style layout, a quick way to check that your bio still works in 80 characters. Download a PNG to show a client or a co-founder.

Use it the right way

Write bios for your own account, a client who asked you, or an invented brand. Never copy a real person's profile or present a mockup as someone's real account. Our acceptable use page has the details.
