How to make a fake tweet for an ad, a video or a deck
Published 31 October 2026
A tweet in an ad, a video or a pitch deck has to look like it came straight from X, or the viewer stops trusting the rest. Here is how to build a convincing X post mock-up in a few minutes, and the numbers that give one away.
What you need
A browser and the words of the post. Fakeconvo's tweet generator draws the current X post view, is free, needs no account and puts no watermark on the PNG. Photos you add stay on your device.
Five steps to a realistic X post
- Set up the author. Under People, type the display name and a "Handle", or leave the handle empty and it follows the name. Tick "Verified badge" for a brand or a big account, and add a profile photo.
- Write the post the way people post. One idea, a line break where you would pause, at most one or two emoji, and well under 280 characters. Posts that travel are short.
- Type the counts in proportion. Views are always the biggest number, then likes, then reposts and replies: 312K views, 8.4K likes, 1.2K reposts, 248 replies. Write them the way X shortens them, like 1.2K, not 1,200.
- Add replies, a quote or photos. Every message after the first becomes a reply with its own name, age ("2h", "45m") and counts. "Quote post" puts another post in a card underneath, and "Photo" adds up to 4 images as a grid.
- Check the clock and export. The post time reads like "9:41 AM · Oct 29, 2026", and "Status bar time" must come after it. Pick light or dark mode to match the rest of your video or slide, then download the PNG at 2x or 3x.
Numbers that give a mock-up away
More likes than views is the classic mistake: everyone who likes a post has seen it. So is one huge number next to tiny ones, like 50K likes with 3 replies. A reply that is "3h" old under a post from an hour ago, or a status bar earlier than the post time, also breaks the illusion.
Handles give mock-ups away too. Real ones are at most 15 characters of letters, numbers and underscores, so @maya.chen-official cannot exist. And a blue badge on every reply looks typed in, not earned.
Use it the right way
Tweet mock-ups are for ads, videos, memes, pitch decks, design work and teaching about misinformation. Do not put words in a real person's mouth, impersonate an account or pass a mock-up off as a real post. Our acceptable use page has the details.
